  5.  NOVELL AFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR DOUBLE BYTE CHARACTER SETS
  6.  Gives Asian Customers NetWare in Local Languages

  8. Overview:  As the demand for NetWare increases internationally, Novell is
  9. committed to supporting Double Byte Character Sets (DBCS) in future
  10. releases of the NetWare operating system. With DBCS support, NetWare
  11. customers in Asian countries will see NetWare in their local language.

  13. NetWares support for DBCS is consistent with the growing international
  14. acceptance of NetWare, said John Edwards, director of NetWare Products
  15. Marketing.  We intend to make NetWare available in native languages to
  16. customers in all countries.

  18. DBCS support involves enabling the operating system and components/services
  19. to support these languages and translating (localizing) all user-visible
  20. parts, (i.e., menus, messages, dates, time, alerts, and documentation), in
  21. their native language.

  23. Need for DBCS:  Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China
  24. require DBCS to support the characters used in their writing systems.

  26. Current DBCS Support:  Novell recently announced NetWare J, a Japanese
  27. version of NetWare which supports DBCS.
