NOVELL AFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR DOUBLE BYTE CHARACTER SETS
Gives Asian Customers NetWare in Local Languages
Overview: As the demand for NetWare increases internationally, Novell is
committed to supporting Double Byte Character Sets (DBCS) in future
releases of the NetWare operating system. With DBCS support, NetWare
customers in Asian countries will see NetWare in their local language.
NetWares support for DBCS is consistent with the growing international
acceptance of NetWare, said John Edwards, director of NetWare Products
Marketing. We intend to make NetWare available in native languages to
customers in all countries.
DBCS support involves enabling the operating system and components/services
to support these languages and translating (localizing) all user-visible
parts, (i.e., menus, messages, dates, time, alerts, and documentation), in
their native language.
Need for DBCS: Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China
require DBCS to support the characters used in their writing systems.
Current DBCS Support: Novell recently announced NetWare J, a Japanese
version of NetWare which supports DBCS.
